Recently myself and a friend were invited to attend Urban Decay’sAlice Through The Looking Glass tea party, and makeup master class, so I thought I’d bring you guys along, and let you know how it went!
When we arrived, we saw that the usual Urban Decay counter was decorated aptly, in a tea party, Alice in Wonderland theme. There was fake moss, cake stands (with cakes of course, Urban Decay knows the ways to our hearts!) along with their limited edition makeup items displayed in cute tea cups and tree stumps. There was also a makeup tutorial that featured most of the products. The makeup artist talked us through a half ‘natural’ daytime look, and half ‘edgy’ night-time look.
The daytime look featured the ‘Alice‘ shades from the limited edition palette, with their new ‘Beached‘ bronzer, and the lipstick in the shade ‘Alice‘ from the limited edition lipsticks in tribute to the film.
The night-time look featured a mix of some of the ‘Iracebeth‘ and ‘Time‘ shades, to create a really deep and smoky eye, along with the lipstick in the shade ‘Time‘ on the lips.I personally really loved the formula of the lipsticks, like most Urban Decay lipsticks, they are creamy and feel lovely on the lips, and I was actually really tempted by the colour ‘Mirana‘, but I stopped myself from buying it because I realised that the reason I loved it so much was that it reminded me of MAC’s Ariana Grande Viva Glam lipstick, (it’s matte too!), which I already own.
The other lipsticks really are quite unique and pretty, ‘Alice‘ is a beautifully shimmery pale nude, ‘Mad Hatter‘ is a heavenly pigmented shimmery purple, ‘Time‘ is an unusual and metallic-looking blue, and ‘Iracebeth‘ is a pinky-red matte fused shade.
Unfortunately all of the lipsticks are now sold out, and I don’t know if they are going to be restocked or if that’s it because they are limited edition, but you can keep an eye on them on Urban Decay’s site.I knew as soon as I was invited to this event that I wanted the eyeshadow palette. There was no doubt in my mind that even before I had seen it in the flesh, that I wanted it. When we first got to see it though, I was sold, purely by the shades ‘Gone Mad’, ‘Paradox’ and ‘Dream On’. I’ve really been loving orange eyeshadow shades lately, as they really compliment my eyes and skin tone, and the rest of the palette is just so unique, and insanely pigmented.
I won’t go too into detail on the palette because I do have a separate post going up after this one, so be sure to look out for that one!
That’s it for Urban Decay’s Alice Through The Looking Glass Event, I really enjoyed the event, and was so happy to be invited. I loved the makeup tips that we were taught, and I can’t wait to attend more makeup and blogger events.
I hope you guys enjoyed this post! Let me know if you’ve got any of the lipsticks, or if like me, you couldn’t wait to get the palette!
I recently realised that I showed you guys my beauty advent calendars at the start of December, but I never gave you guys an update of the products that were included!
So today I thought I’d do another brand focus post, and talk you through the products that I received, and review everything!Total Moisture Facial Cream |This face cream is actually a lot better than I expected it to be. I thought that it’d have a really strong scent, and that as soon as I applied it, it would maybe sting my sensitive skin, and make it so red that I couldn’t use this product. But instead I was pleasantly surprised by a light scent of mango butter, a natural plant-based emollient known to provide moisture, so I didn’t hesitate to put it on my skin, because I knew it would be gentle on it. It left my skin feeling instantly refreshed and highly moisturised.Rockateur Cheek Powder | This cheek powder is a fabulous alternative to both blush and bronzer, because it has both bronzing and peach undertones. You only need a very light swipe of this across the apples of your cheeks, and your complexion is instantly lifted and given a really worthwhile warmth. Benefit describe this product as perfect for giving your skin “a fresh-off-the-stage glow.” Your skin can’t look better than that!
Watts Up! | This highlighter is in my favourite packaging, because I find it so much easier to apply in this twist-up chapstick-style format. The colour itself is a really gorgeous golden champagne, with a lot of shimmer and shine (obviously!). The only thing I found with this particular product (the travel size) is that it takes an awful lot of blending at the edges, to look right. This difficulty obviously doesn’t exist with the full size product because it comes with a proper ‘smudger’ on the other end of the product.
High Beam | This highlighter is my favourite shade of all of Benefits highlighters, because it has a really cool pink undertone, and I find that that shade suits my skin tone best. It is a liquid, so I would recommend using this sparingly, and then blending it out, and gradually applying more if you want a more obvious highlighted look.
Ooh La Lift | This is actually an ‘under-eye brightening’ highlighter, so it’s like a wonderful mix of a concealer and a highlight. As it says itself, its perfect for putting underneath your and in the inner corners of your eyes to really brighten them up and cover any other dark areas you may have, without being overly ‘highlighted’.The Porefessional Primer | I think this is one of Benefits most well known products, it was definitely the first product of theirs that I ever heard about, so I was really excited to give it a try! It’s tinted, but the colour really dissipates once you’ve properly applied it, and I’m really glad to be able to say it’s actually one of the best primers I’ve ever tried. I’ve found that it increases the staying power of both eyeshadows and foundation/concealer for all-day wear. It’s also quite unique because you can apply it under or over your makeup, and I think that’s perfect for those (like me!) that can sometimes forget to apply a base before putting on your makeup.
They’re Real! Remover | I was confused at first by the name of this product, because I was so used to associating this name to the famous mascara, but this is the perfectly formulated remover for that mascara! All you need to do is apply a small amount of this to a cotton pad, and swipe it across your eyes, and it removes all waterproof makeup.Lollitint Lip & Cheek Tint | I have been blown away by the pigment and staying power of this product. When I first tested it, it had the formulation of a lipgloss, so I suspected that when I swiped it away, that it would disappear entirely. But after it had dried and I tried to wipe it off of my hand, it had done just what I least expected, and it had stained my skin a highly pigmented deep pink. I really like this product because it starts out with a consistency similar to a lipgloss, you have some time to apply and play around with it (especially when applying to your cheeks) before it actually settles and stains the skin.
Sugarbomb Lipgloss |Benefit have done it. They have found the perfect formula for a lipgloss that means it’s still a lipgloss, but it’s not sticky, so that’s already an insane pro to this product. This particular lipgloss actually contains some plumping qualities, so at first it does leave a tingly sensation on your lips, but after that, it is a really subtle pink-toned nude lipgloss.
Hoola Lipgloss | This lipgloss is similar to Sugarbomb, but it’s not plumping, and it’s a slightly darker nude shade, which makes it so much more suitable for all skin tones. Again, it’s not sticky, so it’s really nice to wear.
Bad Gal Lash | I really like this mascara for when I’m applying it to both my top and botton lashes, because of the brush applicator, it’s easily buildable and it does take a few coats to get a really exaggerated lash look. So it’s perfect for building up the length and volume of your top lashes, while keeping it pretty and natural on the bottom.
They’re Real! | Possibly one of the most famous mascaras on the market, and I completely understand why. With just one coat, you’ve got an immediate false-lash effect. I don’t like applying this mascara to my lower lashes because the plastic applicator means it can tend to make them look spidery and transfer onto the underneath of my eyes, but other than that, this mascara is perfect for a quick false-lash look.
And that’s it for what was included in Benefit’s advent calendar, I hope you guys enjoyed this post!
Have you tried any products from Benefit before? What’s your fave?
We’ve all got them, our ‘go-tos’, our ‘staples’, well today I’m calling them ‘Beauty products I can’t live without’ (simply because “Beauty Products That I Really Adore But Could Probably Live Without But I Would Rather Not Imagine That Existence” isn’t the catchiest of titles, so here we are.) and I’m sharing my most used and favourite products with you all!
Obviously a primer is a a sensible staple for everyone, because without a good base, your makeup just isn’t going to last. I consider this particular primer from Makeup Revolution a staple because it’s light, does the job for your entire face, and it’s incredibly affordable.
This Stay Matte pressed powder has also become a staple for me, because it’s perfect for matte-ifying any foundation or concealer, and it works wonders for oily areas, keeping them matte for up to 12 hours!
Collection’s Illuminating Touch Concealer is the only concealer for me, it’s so easy to use, and it has the perfect amount of coverage for me, it’s definitely a medium coverage, but it can be built up or worn very sparingly.
I also can’t imagine applying my makeup with anything but a beauty blender now. I know a lot of people rave about them, and there is this insane amount of hype around them, but they really do live up to it all. Whether you like to use it wet or dry, applying your foundation with this tool makes your base look so much more flawless and ‘airbrushed’.
If I could only use one tool and absolutely no makeup, I would choose an eyelash curler, without question. I think that if you’re having a lazy day or you just don’t want to do your makeup, just curling your lashes really adds something to your eyes, making you feel and look fluttery and gorgeous.
Hair & Body
For my hair my holy grail products are this Salon Professional hairspray, and Vitapointe leave-in conditioner. This hairspray is a perfect mix between being lightweight and still having an incredible hold, and it actually smells really nice, which is rare to find in hairsprays. I also really like this leave-in conditioner because it’s perfect for smoothing dry ends and adding a sleekness and shine to straightened hair.
I’ve spoken about this body butter very recently, and it definitely lives up to the hype behind it. It’s softening and light, so it doesn’t leave you feeling greasy. Perfect for all over your entire body.
I also really like using any and all Babylips chapsticks, not only because they are highly moisturising and keep chapped lips at bay, but there are so many tinted options available now, that the possibilities are endless!
I thought I’d just quickly share my ‘go-to’ red and pink lip, because I feel like I’ve finally found my all time favourites. Rimmel’s Kate Moss 107 is is a perfect dark red shade, that I’ve found is suitable for all skin tones, and you know that it suits you well enough for you to wear it with confidence. I also really love this shade from Chanel, and I know it’s a lot pricier than your average drugstore lipstick, but this lipstick is definitely worth investing in because the formula is really moisturising and creamy, so it feels really nice to wear, but also, this particular shade ‘432’ is a beautiful and natural looking pink, so again it’s highly wearable.
I’ve mentioned all three of these products before, so we all already know that I love them and find myself reaching for them constantly, so I’ll quickly run through them all. Collection’s Extreme 24 hour felt liner is my favourite liner on the market. The fact that I know its name without having to read it off of the product itself is telling of how often I not only use it, but talk about it. It’s everything anyone looks for in an eyeliner, and it’s only £2.99, foolproof. Maybelline’s Lash Sensational, I’ve been using this mascara for a long time now, and even recently I’ve been getting comments on how it looks like I’m wearing false eyelashes, only for me to emphasise to everyone that I really don’t have time/can’t be bothered with applying false eyelashes daily, and my look is entirely down to this mascara, I’d recommend it to everyone.
Finally, there’s the Estee Lauder All Over Face Compact, I use this compact in most of my makeup looks, because it contains everything that I need to put a look together, with a nicely pigmented bronzer, and three varying shades of blush, no matter what tone of look I’m going for, I can incorporate this palette.
That’s it for my beauty staples, let me know in the comments what makeup items/tools you can’t live without!
Hey guys! With the UK release of Ariana Grande’s Viva Glam for MAC I thought I would check out the colours and see if I was interested. When I saw the colours, I knew that I had to buy both the lipstick and the lipglass, because they are both so perfect for almost any skintone. I was also really happy to see that all proceeds from both the lipstick and the lipglass goes straight to MAC’s AIDS fund.My favourite is by far the lipstick, it’s got a really lovely formula, which means that it glides on really easily, and it smells delicious! The lipstick is matte, but not drying at all, and it doesn’t crack, like a lot of matte lipsticks tend to do after a little while. I did find that because of the intensity of this colour, it can be quite messy when you’re applying it, so I would recommend using a similar coloured lip-liner before applying it, as that can make it a lot easier to apply, and ensures that it lasts all day.The lipglass is a really beautiful colour, and much more wearable for an everyday look, and I would wear this everyday, if it weren’t for the formula. The formula of these lipglosses is really sticky, and if you’ve got hair long enough to get stuck in it, it will get stuck in it. It’s nicely pigmented, so it leaves you with a really pretty light and natural pink that’s actually quite sparkly.
These colours can also be worn together, with the lipglass ontop of the lipstick. The sparkles in the lipglass sits really nicely ontop of the depth and darkness of the lipstick, but again, because of the intensity of the lipstick, it’s not for everyone, it suits everyone, but not everyone would want to wear it.
I really love both of these products, but I’m much more likely to wear the lipstick, simply because the lipgloss is a bit too sticky for me to wear for an extended amount of time.
I love the colours of both, and I’m also really glad that all of the money spent on these products goes to a great cause, let me know if you’re planning on picking up either of these products!
After finishing my beauty advent calendars, I realised that I now have a hearty collection of all things Makeup Revolution, so today I’m talking you guys through a selection of their products, with reviews of everything, now there is a lot, so let’s get through this!
Primer | This primer is perfect for either all-over-face makeup, or just as an eyeshadow primer. It’s incredibly light and soft, and not sticky at all. I was impressed with this primer, as it made my makeup last a few hours longer than usual in the day. The only downside to it being as light as it is, is that you tend to use a little bit more than you would with other primers because you aren’t aware of it being on your face.
Highlight | These highlighters are insane. They are beautiful, and one of my favourite drugstore highlighters. My favourite is the ‘Pink Lights’ as I find that it suits my skintone the best. All you need is a very light dusting across your cheeks and you’re set for the whole day (or night!) They are nicely pigmented, so you don’t need to go overboard when applying.
Blush | I think the blushes are a bit of a miss, but this might just be because they aren’t well suited for my skintone. As you can see in my swatches, ‘Treat’ is much too similar to my skintone to be a blush, ‘Wow’ is a bit too barbie-pink for it to be wearable daily for me. The best blush for me would be ‘Now’, but I find it too orange-based for a blush, I’d be much more confident wearing this as an eyeshadow.
Palettes | If I was forced to pick only one product from Makeup Revolution, it’d definitely be a palette. The palettes combine a huge amount of perfectly blendable creamy shades. I was surprised at the amount of shades in the palettes, as they are so affordable! My favourite palette of them all is the ‘Beyond Flawless’ as it has everything you need to create basic eye looks, more complicated looks, rose gold inspired looks and a dark smoky eye. So many of the shades in this palette remind me of those in the Naked 3, and it’s only £8! I also really like that Makeup Revolution have more unusual palettes, as a lot of palettes available nowadays are quite basic nudes.
Mono Eyeshadows | I have never known such creamy and well pigmented mono eyeshadows. My favourite shade is ‘Mountains of Gold’, because it’s a beautiful gold colour, but with a shimmer that I’ve never seen before. (It also really reminds me of my favourite shade from Urban Decay’s Naked 3, ‘Trick’!)
Lip Lacquer | I picked up this lip lacquer just before Halloween last year, and my only wish is that I could wear it more often! As it says, it goes on as a liquid, and dries matte. The Salvation Lip Lacquers are really gorgeous colours, but they are usually not ones that you can wear daily. I also found that you need to reapply quite frequently as they do break up after roughly an hour.
Intense Lipgloss | Now as you can see, I could only swatch the red lipgloss, and that’s because the doe foot applicator for the pink shade is stuck at the bottom of the lipgloss. I was really disappointed as this shade looks like a lipgloss that I’d actually enjoy wearing! The lipglosses themselves aren’t particularly sticky, but as you can also see, the really deep red actually comes out as more of a pink, so they aren’t as pigmented as they appear in the packaging.
Sheer Lipgloss | The sheer lipglosses are a lot stickier than the Intense Lipglosses, but they are available in really gorgeous colours. The first one is a very subdued gloss, adding just a touch of shimmer to your lips, and the second one is a very wearable medium-nude pink
The Viper | This is one of the only things that has disappointed me. The wand is shaped just like the head of a cobra, which I understand is inkeeping with the name of the mascara, but it makes it quite difficult to apply, and once you have applied it, is doesn’t really do much to elongate, curl or volumise lashes. This mascara is one of the only things I wouldn’t repurchase.
Lipsticks | Another one of my favourite things from Makeup Revolution! These lipsticks are creamy, well pigmented, and highly wearable! When I saw some of these colours I was quite intimidated by them, but I’ve found myself even wearing the orange shade! They are reasonably long lasting, but I would recommend reapplying roughly halfway through the day. I can’t believe how much I really like these lipsticks, again, considering how affordable they are.
Nail Polishes | I like there is a wider variety of polishes, and they’re not exclusively bright or pastels. They dry quite quickly, usually in just over a minute. For the colour to be true to that of the bottle, you do have to apply a a couple of coats, and they last around 5-6 days.
That’s it for today, do you have any favourite products from Makeup Revolution, or have you never tried any of their stuff?
Hey guys! Today I thought I’d take you through my autumn beauty essentials, from every plum berry and shimmer-based eyeshadow, without further adieu, here are some of the products that I recommend for any Fall/autumn look!Lips
Obviously any deep red, plum or berry lipstick is what everyone flocks to, and recommends to everyone. I am no different, because I adore these shades too! But I also love nude colours for this time of year, as it can work beautifully with a statement or smokey eye look. Some of my lipstick favourites are Kate Moss for Rimmel in #107, Collection’s “Aubergine Kiss”, and Rimmel’s “Naughty Nude”. I would also recommend the corresponding lipliners with these lipsticks, as the almost double the lasting power, and ensure your lipstick stays put all day long, and doesn’t spread. I also love deep lipglosses such as Rimmel’s Vinyl gloss and Salvation lip lacquers.
While the sun may go into hiding for the autumn and winter months, your tan and contouring certainly doesn’t need to! A BB cream, or your regular foundation, a concealer and of course, bronzing is the ultimate essential for these autumnal/winter months, even if you don’t commit to any other A/W trends!Eyes
Now is the perfect time to embrace gorgeously smokey eyes, shimmer and golds. I love the All About The Eyes palette, and the Heaven & Earth palette, because they include all of the necessary shades for just a shimmery gold eye, and a smokey eye! They are also both excellent stand-ins for many shades in the Naked 3 palette.
And finally, and this is a lot coming from me: dark colours are in. Reds, purples, greens, oranges, any hue that is deep and dark is perfect for this time of year. I’ve also recently discovered the Maybelline Colour Show in #232 “Rose Chic”, and I’ve never fallen in love with a nail varnish quite so quickly. It’s like painting rose gold directly onto your nails, is there anything better? I think not.
That’s it for my autumn/fall beauty essentials post, I hope you guys enjoyed it, if you did, be sure to let me know in the comments and give it a lil ‘like’, also let me know in the comments what your Fall essentials are when it comes to makeup.
For those of us that like to wear makeup, we can quickly see that there are certain products we like to keep at hand throughout the day. So today I’m sharing with you guys my favourite makeup bag staples.
First things first, obviously a compact is a really handy thing to have in your makeup bag, otherwise carrying any additional products is entirely useless. I like to have a double compact, meaning there is a regular mirror and a magnified side.
The next staple is a moisturiser. If you suffer from dry skin, then it really helps to improve it if you regularly moisturise throughout the day. It also helps your makeup sit better on your skin, and give it a much higher lasting power.
For me, I also like to always have a pair of tweezers on me, if not for any last minute brow checks for yourself, then it’s always handy to lend to a friend if they are in need.
Naturally after tweezers, the next product is whatever you use for filling in your brows. I use a brow pencil, as it’s handy and easily portable.
A further product that I can’t even imagine leaving the house without is a chapstick. I’ve been obsessed with Babylips since I first picked up one to try out. Lately I picked up this lightly tinted one to add a little bit of colour to the lips, while also moisturising them.
Next I also like to have a natural lip look ready in my makeup bag, so I like to carry a pink lipliner along with a corresponding lipstick. My favourites are Rimmel’s Exagerrate lipliner in ‘Eastend Snob’ and Lancôme’s L’absolu Rouge in #06 ‘Rose Nu’ which I have previously spoken about in my favourites.
Finally, for the eyes I also like to always have a neutral eye look handy in my makeup bag, so I’ll always have a neutral toned eyeshadow palette on me, lately I’ve been loving Makeup Academy’s Heaven & Earth eyeshadow palette, as it covers a lot of neutral and pretty looks.
I can’t leave out eyeliner, so I’ve always got a felt liner on me, and once again recently I stumbled upon Collection’s Extreme 24 hour eyeliner, and it hasn’t left my side since. I also like to have my mascara on me just in case I need to touch it up during the day.
Obviously there are certain other tools that are always good to have handy, for me it’s an eyelash curler, travel brush, a hair tie and some bobby pins.
That’s it for today! What products can you guys not leave the house without? Let me know in the comments!
