3 Easy Snack Recipes

I’ve been baking for what feels like an eternity, so I don’t want to ramble in this intro. Instead I’ll just say, if you’re feeling peckish but don’t have anything to snack on, don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.

Peanut Butter Cookies

IMG_2394Ingredients:

  • 200g peanut butter (crunchy or smooth)
  • 175g golden caster sugar
  • ¼ tsp fine table salt
  • 1 large egg

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180c, and line 2 large baking trays with baking paper. Place the peanut butter and sugar into a bowl. Add the salt and mix well. Add the egg and mix again until the mixture forms a dough.
  2. Then cut out your cookies. I used a heart cookie cutter, but you can make them any shape you want. Then place your cookies, well spaced apart, on the trays. Bake for 12 mins, until golden around the edges and paler in the centre.IMG_2395

Fruit Scones

IMG_2498Ingredients:

  • 225g self-raising flour
  • 85g caster sugar
  • 57gbutter
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 113g sultanas
  • 150ml milk

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180c. Line a baking tray with baking paper. Put the flour, caster sugar, butter and baking powder in a bowl. Mix it in with your fingers until it starts to look a bit like breadcrumbs.
  2. Add in the raisins (or optional fruit) and milk a little at a time until the mixture comes together. Try to make sure it doesn’t get too wet or you will have to add more flour.
  3. Roll out the dough. If it feels too wet when you are rolling and starts sticking to everything, add a little more flour to the surface and turn it so that both sides are floured. Cut out little circles around 2cm thick and glaze with milk. Place on the baking paper.
  4. Bake for about 12 minutes, or until golden brown.IMG_2502

  1. Preheat the oven to 190c, grease a cake tin and line the base with baking paper. Place the butter and sugar in a large bowl and beat until pale and fluffy.
  2. Lightly beat the eggs and vanilla extract in another large bowl. Add 1/4 of the egg mixture and a tablespoon of the flour to the butter mixture and beat well. Add the rest of the egg mixture, a little at a time, mixing as you go. Add the remaining flour and milk, fold in.
  3. Transfer the mixture to the prepared tin and bake for roughly 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  4. To make the butter cream, mix the butter and icing sugar until smooth. Then slice the cake horizontally and spread the butter cream on one half, then sandwich the two layers together.

It’s officially the season for all things chocolate. I wanted to share an Easter-themed recipe with you all, an I initially thought of sharing a hot cross bun recipe, but when I thought about how easy it is to pick up a whole pack of them, I wanted to share a much quicker, and more fun Easter treat for the occasion, these 5 minute Easter Egg Nests!

Mini EggsIMG_2053Method

  4. Gently stir in the cornflakes until it’s all evenly covered in chocolate

Quick & Easy Valentine’s Makeup Look

Dudes, before you overlook this post thinking to yourself, “Corinne, I really don’t need to watch another video with far too many steps to be practical, with far too many products for anyone to necessarily own”, this post is different.

Yes it’s a Valentine’s Day inspired post, but it actually is really quick, easy, and there’s no red lip in sight.backgrounderI know most Valentine’s Day makeup tutorials talk about different shades of red to perfectly suit every skin colour, but the truth is that some people just don’t want to wear a red lipstick, so this look is a simple but romantic ‘loved-up’ look. All I’ve used to create this look is 6 products (and one tool, but I’m not counting that) and it takes roughly 10 minutes to be fully done.IMG_1255

Start out by prepping your skin with moisturiser, then complete your usual foundation regime. I’ve then lightly contoured with the Estée Lauder “All Over Face Compact” and highlighted with Makeup Revolution’s “Blush” Palette.

Then fill in your eyebrows and apply ‘Mink’ from Soap & Glory’s “The Perfect 10” palette all over your eyelid, then apply a little bit of ‘Nudecomer’ to define the crease of your eye, and finally a little bit of ‘Moon Mist’ to the very inner corners of your eyes.

Once you’ve finished your eyeshadow, draw a thin cat eye with eyeliner, and apply some glue to some light and fluttery lashes. I am in love with this set from Fleur De Force by Eyelure because they are actually only 3/4 of the usual size of eyelashes, so they focus on the outside of your eyes, making your eyes look super big, and your lashes natural and fluttery!

Once the glue has almost dried and become tacky, curl your lashes, and then apply the falsies, and fill in any gaps with your eyeliner. The final step is to apply Bourjois’ “Rouge Edition Velvet” in the colour ‘Nude-ist’.

And you’re done! I hope you guys enjoyed this post, and like this look, I really wanted to give you a different option to a bold red lip for Valentine’s. Let me know if you’re going to be wearing a similar look for Valentine’s Day!

What are you getting up to this Valentine’s Day?

Quick Fix Face Masks Review

Hey guys! As I was wandering through Boots recently, I noticed that there was an offer on these faces masks. I’d never seen or heard of them before, so I thought I’d pick them up and give them a try and let you know how I got on with them!

I chose these three because they each aim to target a very different skin problem, the first is a ‘purifying charcoal’, and is aimed at ‘congested, lifeless skin’. The second is an ‘exfoliating scrub mask’, meant for ‘blackheads and blocked pores’, and the last is a ‘calming clay’, for ‘sensitive and red skin’.quick fix face masks review (1)quick fix face masks review (2)This mask really is a godsend if you suffer with skin that is sensitive and prone to redness. After I’ve had a bit of a bad reaction to something, this mask is what I’ll reach for to calm my skin down. It’s quite thick, (each tube containing approximately 10 facials!) and immediately cools down the skin, meaning that it’s actively calming down any redness. It also doesn’t tingle or burn, it simply feels really cooling for the entire duration you’ve got it on your skin, and once it’s washed off, your skin is left feeling really clean and dewy.quick fix face masks review (3)This is quite a unique face mask, because most of them are just applied to the skin, then you wait for around 15 minutes, and then wash them off. But when after applying this mask, you can continue to massage it into your skin to brighten up your complexion. Once you’ve washed this mask off your skin will feel baby soft!quick fix face masks review (4)And finally this charcoal mask, which is a lot heavier because it’s meant to bring dull skin back to life. I would recommend this mask if you regularly wear a heavy high coverage foundation or concealer, as this can really liven up your skin, and stop it from gradually feeling clogged up and dull. Another pro of this particular mask is that because it’s thick and dark, you really feel like it’s doing something beneficial for your skin.

I really like that these face masks cover such a wider range of skin types, but they are also so affordable! I was actually initially drawn to them because with them boasting that there are 10 facials in each tube, I thought this range would be perfect for a super-cliché and adorable girly night with all of my pals!

The range also includes a mega-moisturising one, a collagen-lift one, an anti-blemish one and a brightening-peel one. All are currently available at Boots for £5, or 3 for £10.

Have you seen this range anywhere? Have you tried it?

Snapchat Filter Halloween Costume

Hey guys! Today I thought I’d share a quick halloween makeup tutorial, a Snapchat filter! As most of you probably know by now, a few weeks back, Snapchat unveiled their latest features, one of which was a super cute rainbow-puke filter. And since we’re nearing halloween, I thought this would be a super easy last-minute makeup look for anyone that doesn’t have a costume yet!

So I started out by doing my regular face and basic eye makeup, just a touch of gold on the lids and wings, with a little bit of mascara.

Then you start by creating a small rainbow on your chin. I used face paints to achieve this look, but you could use liquid lipsticks, eyeshadows, or anything that will be highly pigmented when applied to your face.   Snapchat Filter Halloween Costume Makeup Tutorial Once you’ve finished the chin, you can bring the rainbow down onto your neck and chest. I’ve put a little wave in it because that’s how the filter falls when it’s on Snapchat.Snapchat Filter Halloween Costume Makeup Tutorial Now for some smaller details, I added little stars and sparkles with a white eyeliner pencil, and a little cloud attached to the end of the rainbow.Snapchat Filter Halloween Costume Makeup TutorialSnapchat Filter Halloween Costume Makeup Tutorial Finally I added some white eyeliner to my waterline and bottom lash line, making my eyes look bigger, and a lot of blush to the apples of my cheeks, because the filter makes your eyes very big, and cheeks very flushed.

I then blended my cheeks, and you’re done!Snapchat Filter Halloween Costume Makeup Tutorial

And that’s it! I hope you guys enjoyed this fun tutorial, it really is super quick and easy if you don’t have a costume preprepared, or if you don’t want to spend a lot of money on a costume! Let me know if you give this look a go for halloween!

Halloween Gingerbread Men

That’s right, today marks the official start of Halloween here on Organic By Nerve! I’ve got a lot of fun halloween themed posts for you guys for the rest of this month, so without further adieu, let’s get started with these super cute (and easy) halloween themed gingerbread men!6

Ingredients:

350g plain flour, plus extra for rolling out

1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

2 tsp ground ginger

1 tsp ground cinnamon

125g butter

175g light soft brown sugar

1 free range egg

4 tbsp golden syrup

Method:

First, preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas 4, and line two baking trays with greaseproof paper.

Then start by sifting together the flour, bicarbonate of soda, ginger and cinnamon. Then pour into your mixer. Add the butter and blend until the mix looks like breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar.

Next, lightly beat the egg and golden syrup together, add to the mixer and mix until the mixture combines together.

Roll the dough out to whatever thickness you’d like (remember that they will spread and rise in the oven though!) on a lightly floured surface. Using your gingerbread men cutters, cut out the gingerbread men shapes and place on the baking tray, leaving a gap between each of them.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until lightly golden-brown. Finally, move them onto a wire rack to finish cool properly before icing. When cooled decorate with the writing icing and make them as ghoulish or creepy as your heart desires! I’ve left some ideas for you below.

3 4 5

You can ice your gingerbread men to look like skeletons, mummies, zombies, sewn-up frakensteins, vampires, chainsaw victims, ordinary creepers or even the gingerbread man from Shrek!

That’s it for my halloween themed gingerbread men! Let me know if you’re going to recreate these, I’d love to see them!

Chocolate Chip Cookies

As September is gradually coming to a close, I am loving all things fall. And to me, that means being snuggled up in cosy jumpers, and being inside beside a fire, with comforting food. And what’s more comforting than home-made cookies?! I’ve got a recipe that is super easy to follow, and within 20 minutes you’ll be enjoying your cookies! So today I’m sharing it with you guys!

DSCN2013  Ingredients

100g brown sugar

125g unsalted block butter

1 egg

1 1/2 tsp vanilla essence

1/2 tsp salt

225g Self Raising Flour

200g chocolate (any kind!)

1/2 tsp salt

DSCN2018Method

  1. Pre-heat oven to 200°c then place the butter and sugar in large bowl and mix well.
  2. Then add the egg and vanilla essence and mix well again.
  3. After that, sieve in the flour and salt, be sure to mix and combine well.
  4. Next cut the chocolate, roughly as finely as you’d like your chocolate chunks to be, for these I cut the chocolate quite fine. Once you’ve decided how fine you’d like your chunks, add them to the mix.
  5. Once everything is nicely mixed together, roll balls of mixture to about 2cm by 2cm and place on a baking tray with baking parchment on. Be careful not to put the cookies too close together because they will grow a little when cooking.
  6. Place in preheated oven for 7-10 minutes. Repeat until all cookies are cooked.

22 Beauty Hacks Everyone Should Know

Fotor0916134947This post is quite long, so without further introduction, here are 22 beauty hacks that I think everyone should know!

1. Apply Vaseline to your eyelashes before bed, this will make them easier to curl in the morning and enhances growth.

2. Use a DIY sugar scrub before you shave for the worlds softest legs which will be officially recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records – mix one part oil to two parts sugar, and add vanilla essence or lavender oil, whatever scent you most enjoy, and rub it onto your legs to remove dead skin.

3. Always apply a second coat of mascara, it’ll ensure your mascara doesn’t fade, and stays curled all day.

4. If your lipstick doesn’t have a great staying power, before applying it, apply some to a slanted brush and fill and line your lips with it, then apply your lipstick regularly, it’ll double the lasting time!

5. Apply a shimmer based white or silver eyeshadow to the middle of your lower lip for bigger, exaggerated lips.

6. When you apply foundation, apply it in downward strokes, as it flattens the tiny hairs on your face, meaning you’re left with a much more natural looking base.

7. After you’ve washed your brushes, turn them upside down and roll them in your hand, this will preserve the softness and fluffiness of the brush.DSCN22548. If you want to overline your lips, only overline the centre of your lips, and then bring the line back into follow your lips natural lines, this makes your lips look much more natural and just a little plumper.

9. Mattify any lipstick by adding a pressed or translucent powder over the top of it, it absorbs the moisture and leaves you with a matte lipstick.

10. If your hair is badly tangled, don’t brush from the roots, this will hurt your scalp and possibly tear the hair out, instead brush from the ends and work your way up to the roots, it’s much more delicate on hair and your scalp.

11. If you have a few split ends, but you don’t want to have any length cut off of your hair, simply twist all of your hair together and cut the strands that are sticking out; this removes the split ends and doesn’t take off any length!

12. If you can never get a clean cut line when you do winged eyeliner, take a little bit of masking tape and put it on the back of your hand and peel it off a few times (this is just to make it slightly tacky) then put it beside your eye mimicking the line where you’d like your eyeliner. Then you can confidently apply your eyeliner, remove the tape and you’re left with a clean line.

13. If you don’t have an eyeshadow primer, you can use a small amount of concealer on your lids to help the eyeshadow last all day.

14. Hair grips are supposed to be used with the flat side showing! Many people slide the flat side downwards, this makes it easier for the grip to slide out!

15. If you’ve created a hairstyle and you’d like it to last longer than it does, use your hair grips in a cross formation, this means they both hold the other grip in.

16. Talcum powder can be used as a dry shampoo substitute if you don’t have any.DSCN225617. If your nail varnish takes too long to dry, once you’ve finished, put your fingertips into a glass of cold water for about 2 minutes, after that, your nails will be dry!

18. If your mascara has dried up and you can’t buy more for a little while, by adding a few drops of makeup remover to your mascara will make it last for a few more uses until you can buy a new one!

19. Applying chapstick before lipstick keeps the lipstick from transferring to around your mouth, and also makes it have a longer lasting power.

20. Putting a white eyeliner in your waterline brightens up tired eyes and makes them look bigger.

21. If you’ve woken up with badly puffy eyes, putting two spoons in the fridge for a couple of minutes and then resting them on your eyes for a few more minutes will reduce the puffiness and soothe your eyes.

22. If you constantly suffer with puffy eyes, ensure that you’re sleeping with pillows that elevate you head above the rest of your body, this means your body is properly draining the fluids from your head, no more puffy eyes!

Back To School 4 Easy Hairstyles

Easy Back To School HairstylesI know, how you’re going to wear your hair for when you go back to school isn’t at the forefront of your mind when you think about back to school. So don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Today I’m sharing with you guys, 4 super easy hairstyles that you can wear when you go back to school!

High Ponytail with Headband | This hairstyle is super easy, and also great for hiding a bad hair day, or if your hair isn’t feeling really fresh, and you just want it up and out of the way. The headband makes this style look super cute and adds another element to it.

Two Braids | This hairstyle is a little more work, but if you can french-braid hair, then this style is very achievable. You simply braid your fringe back from your face, and secure it with a hair elastic, then you braid a section of hair that’s roughly the same size away from your face on the other side. Then you join the two braids together.

High Messy Bun | This hairstyle is one of my favourites when I really don’t want to do anything with my hair, but I don’t want it in my face, or getting in the way. (This style is also super useful for if it’s a really hot day, as all of your hair is up, and not tickling you neck, or making it sweaty!) I have a post on how to do this style, but all it really is, is a high ponytail, you twist is to collect all of the hair together, and then wrap it around the base of the ponytail, then secure it all with another hair tie.

Messy Braids | If you’re not a particular fan of a ‘styled’ look, and you prefer to have your hair down and messy, then this style could work for you! All you have to do is flip all of your hair to one side of your head, then secure it with some bobby pins, just so you don’t have to keep moving it all back over to one particular side. Then just add some random braids in wherever you like, the point is to make it look messy and casual. You can add some salt spray if you’d like, to keep your hair tousled all day.

That’s it for some simple hairstyles for back to school, I hope you guys try these out! If you do, be sure to let me know which one was your favourite!
